Heartache2Heartache

from Carry Me Over by Jim Lesses

/

about

As I recall, this was my very first attempt at a home recording using a very primitive home 'studio' setup. This would have been somewhere around 2003/2004. I remember being surprised that I was able to get what I at the time thought were very acceptable results. In fact, I still like this recording very much.

She sits by herself in the Heartbreak Café,
Stirring her coffee and cream.
She picks at her fingers, dividing the blame,
And knows it’s the end of the dream.

CHORUS
Heartache to Heartache,
they circled each other,
Both of them drowning in fear.
Through Tangos and Foxtrots,
Two-steps and Waltzes,
Afraid to let go the veneer.

He is sitting alone in a bar on the corner,
Swallowing doubles of Rye.
The pain in his eyes, and the weight on his shoulders,
Betrays the shadows inside.

CHORUS

BRIDGE
So here’s to the lovers,
who stand with the others,
Proclaiming their love before all.
And here’s to the losers,
who deal with the bruises,
And rise up despite every fall.

CODA
You’ve got to let go the veneer.
